METHODOLOGY

How this directory is built and maintained

This is a source directory, not a ranking. It records where each airline tells passengers to report a baggage problem, submit costs or loss evidence, and track or appeal a case.

72 airlines checked
209 official routes recorded
59 publish no baggage claim email

Coverage

We include operating airlines for which an official baggage route can be verified. A report route creates the PIR or file reference; a claim route submits the written demand and evidence. Where the airline separates tracking or appeal, those links are recorded too.

Verification

Every entry is checked against the airline's own website or conditions of carriage. Each card shows its own link-check date. Automated availability checks supplement manual source review; protected forms are not marked broken just because they block automated requests.

Email transparency

A public claim email is counted only when the airline publishes it for baggage claims. General customer-service addresses are not substituted. A missing email therefore means no relevant public address was found on the verified official route, not that email can never be used.

Aer Lingus asks for a delayed bag to be reported as soon as possible and within 7 days of travel, at the airport or through its ReportMyBag form, which issues a Delayed Baggage Reference Number. Damage not reported on arrival goes through the WorldTracer Passenger Self Service link: the damaged baggage page allows seven days from receiving the bag, while the claim form itself says five, so report inside five days to be safe. For essential purchases the airline publishes guide amounts of EUR 100 first needs on day 1, then on average EUR 50 a day for days 2 to 3, EUR 40 for days 4 to 8 and EUR 20 for days 8 to 21, and says they are guidance, not a cap. A bag delayed beyond 21 days is treated as lost and settled up to 1,519 SDR, which Aer Lingus puts at about EUR 1,900, with any essential-expense payments deducted from that final settlement.

Thai Airways

Thai Airways sets two different deadlines and both are written on its own baggage pages. A damaged bag has to be shown to the TG baggage service at the airport, and the written claim must reach TG baggage claim service within seven days of arrival; the airline states plainly that it does not cover baggage which was not reported at the airport and not claimed in writing inside that week. For a delayed bag the written reimbursement claim goes in as soon as possible and no later than 21 days after the bag is delivered back to you, with the PIR and every receipt attached. Thai treats a delay over 24 hours as the point where essential purchases start, and works to internal reference figures of 100 USD per person per case on international routes and 25 USD on domestic ones, which is guidance rather than an entitlement: the airline pays proven loss against documentation. Thai still quotes the older 1,288 SDR liability figure on its damage page rather than the current 1,519 SDR limit.

Vietnam Airlines

Vietnam Airlines wants the report made in person at the lost baggage counter of the arrival airport, which issues the PIR and its reference number. Adding anything to that report has a deadline the airline states directly: no later than seven days from the date the baggage should have been received for damaged or lost baggage, and no later than 21 days for delayed baggage. The supplementary information goes on the PIR form itself and is sent to the lost baggage counter of the arrival airport, not to a central address. For lost baggage the airline directs passengers to WorldTracer to update the delivery address along the itinerary.

Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines runs both the report and the tracking through one Self-Service Baggage Reporting Portal, and the only deadline it publishes applies to damage: if you have already left the airport you can still report the damage through the portal within seven days of receiving your baggage. It publishes no deadline in days for a delayed bag, so the Montreal Convention period of 21 days from delivery governs the written claim. One point matters more than the deadline on a multi-carrier ticket: if the final flight of the itinerary is not operated by Malaysia Airlines, the airline says the report belongs to the carrier that flew it.

Philippine Airlines

Philippine Airlines asks for the report in person at the Baggage Assistance Counter in the arrival area, or through its Baggage Issue Reporting Portal if you cannot get there. It publishes one date that matters on an international ticket: if the bag has not been found by the seventh day after it was reported missing, you complete the Baggage Claim Form to move the case from a search into a claim. The airline sets out at length what it will not pay for, which is the ordinary wear and tear exclusion: cuts, scratches, scuffs, dents and marks, protruding parts such as straps, pockets, pull handles, wheels and zipper tabs, damage from improper or overpacking, and anything carried under a Limited Release tag.

SunExpress

SunExpress states its damage deadline twice and in the same terms: the written report is due within the legally stipulated period of seven days after the flight date, whether you noticed the damage at the airport or after leaving it, and it adds that it may ask why the damage was not reported at the airport. There is also a window most carriers do not publish: if no PIR could be created at the airport for an undelivered bag, you may still create the report within 48 hours of arrival using the baggage tag. After five days without the bag the airline asks to be told through the contact form, and at 21 days the bag is treated as lost and the compensation claim opens. Damaged medical equipment such as a wheelchair, rollator or walker has its own form regardless of where you live.

Luxair

Luxair splits the case by what went wrong and gives each a deadline on its own page. Damage found at the airport goes to the baggage service desk, which issues a Damage Property Report; if you have already left, you have seven days from the date you received the bag to declare it, and Luxair asks for the baggage tag to still be attached. Items missing from inside the bag follow the same seven days. A delayed bag is reported at the desk or, at Luxembourg airport, online, and the PIR reference then tracks it. Essential purchases are reimbursed by email to the baggage claims team, and if the bag is still missing 21 days after arrival the compensation claim under the Montreal Convention opens through the complaint form.

Corendon Airlines

Corendon writes both Montreal deadlines into its own FAQ: a damage notification made after leaving the airport must be submitted in writing within seven days of the baggage delivery date, and a delayed-delivery complaint within 21 days of the date the bag was delivered. One condition is stricter than most carriers state out loud. Corendon calls the Property Irregularity Report a mandatory document and says that where it cannot be submitted there is no right to compensation, so the report at the arrivals hall is not a formality. It also lists what it refuses: scratches, scrapes and dirt, bags with no tag, damage caused by the contents leaking or wetting, over-packed bags, and anything carried under a Limited Release label. Missing contents are directed to the police rather than to the airline.
